Building a better future with care & love for animals

Jackson

Jackson came from a backyard breeder with his two siblings. His brother and sister found homes, but we just couldn’t part with Jackson. He loves to lay on the couch with everyone during group and wants attention from anyone and everyone!

Joey

Joey was found under some bushes in San Diego all alone when he was about 6 weeks old. The couple that originally took him in couldn’t keep him, so they took him to their older neighbor that regularly fosters dogs. She posted him online, and we knew he’d be a great fit for the ranch where he could run free and make friends with all kinds of animals and people. He can now be seen following Judee around or chasing butterflies on any given day.

Percy

Percy was brought to Rancho Milagro because his family was moving and could not take him to their new home. Unfortunately as a backyard pet, his diet was unmonitored. He was severely overweight, his joints swollen, and he couldn’t see past the fat on his face. Due to this, he had an extremely difficult time walking. Since coming to Rancho Milagro, he’s lost enough weight that he can walk well and can see where he’s going! He likes to be talked to and scratched outside his fence.

Ellie and Dolley

Ellie started off life as a local race horse, and won a race at Santa Anita! She suffered a leg injury and was going to be euthanized, until a family came in and was willing to rehabilitate and train her. She was then trained to be a jumping horse, and her new home even helped earn her and her rider a scholarship and spot on the jumping team at UC Davis! Before heading up to Davis for her new life, she re-injured her foot, and could no longer jump. To save her from being sent to pasture for the rest of her life, Rancho Milagro took her in and has allowed her to continue to work. Due to her injury, work is kept it minimal enough that she can rest her foot and won’t hurt it again. She loves to be pet and loves treats, so when you stop by make sure you say hi with a treat!

Dolly, at the age of 11, has had a long and difficult life. She was shackled and used for breeding. A rescue stepped in after discovering her beatings and starvation. She has scars on her legs from the shackles and scars on her back from the starvation and beatings, but she is truly one of the sweetest animals alive. She originally came to Rancho Milagro as a foster while Windy was sent away for training. However, after Windy came back, we were all too attached to let her go. So she’s finally found a safe, permanent residence where she can be loved and live worry-free! She loves baths and playing in her water bucket, and she’ll eat anything you give her! She is a true example of how circumstances do not define you or your future 🙂

Lucy

Lucy and Ethel were brought to Rancho Milagro when their original family was moving and could not take them along. Their original family had Lucy for 13 years and Ethel for 2 years. They were hand raised from the time they were young, so they’re friendly with people and both love to be pet! Come out for a visit and see say!

Luna

Luna was picked up by Tori on the dirt road in September 2018. She was taken to Rancho and was shy at first, but quickly warmed up to everyone! Now her favorite thing to do is sit on the couch with anyone that’s willing to pet her. She loves spending time with clients.

Mimi

Mimi’s family was going through hardships and couldn’t care for her anymore. Judee’s family took her in about 9 years ago now.. She loves to go to work and spends all her time supervising what everyone else is doing.

Tempe and Windy

Tempe was purchased for the youngest daughter of a family so she could ride. The family that bought her did not know that she was pregnant, so Windy was their happy surprise! When Windy was three and Tempe was about eight, the family decided to move from Pennsylvania to California. They paid a mover and loaded them up, but the horses never got to California. They were missing, hidden in a trailer for six months!

They were beaten in an attempt to train them and starved. They finally got to California, but could no longer be handled due to severe treatment. Rancho Milagro took them in in 2015. Slowly they were able to be handled, and Tempe slowly allowed riders on her back. Windy was broken in 2018, which took three months of hard work by her trainer. Today, both love to go out for rides and be given attention! They are gifts to all of us and our clients at Rancho Milagro!

Ginger

Ginger has been with Rancho Milagro on the ranch for 10 years. Someone dumped her out on the dirt road. At first, Judee’s family only fed her everyday. But once Ginger’s safety become a concern with a neighbor shooting at her to keep her away from their chickens, Judee’s family took her in so she didn’t get hurt. She was immediately happy with the family and now spends her days taking naps and asking for attention from everyone.
